‘SEE YOU MORNING’ 126 Forest Funeral

Floating in the air, Lin Yuhui was reflecting on his emotional patterns. Should he stop assuming other people’s emotional needs for him? If she didn’t make anything clear, he should stop clinging to the past, live his own life, and no longer be tied down by anyone.
But as time passed, what he felt more urgently was that his body seemed to be getting lighter and lighter, and his body was even about to spread and dissolve into the vast space. What followed was a broader perception, but these perceptual fragments lost their chronological order, so that he himself was not sure about the cause and effect of those events and their impact on reality.
Although it was winter, at low latitudes, the morning sun was still getting hotter and hotter. Lin Yuhui felt that his tolerance to the scorching sun seemed to have decreased compared to before. He searched around the woods and flew in. The dense tree canopy blocked the sunlight, and the space under the shade felt much cooler.
While wandering aimlessly in the woods, he was attracted by the movement outside the woods on the other side. He had never liked joining in the fun, but after losing his life goals, he also began to feel bored and started to pass the time by watching the excitement.
“Dear Father, relatives, friends and guests, hello everyone. Today, with deep sorrow, I am here with all of you to bid farewell to the person I love most in my life — my husband, Theodore Jaden.”
The speaker was a lady dressed in black. It turned out to be a funeral, and her husband had passed away. If he were still alive, Lin Yuhui would never stay here. It was unlucky. If he were still alive, he would not spend time watching this excitement. It was not worth it. But now he seemed to have changed his personality, as if he had become a different person, and actually watched with great interest.
Another reason why he was interested in watching the funeral was that his perception could somehow connect with the people present, so that he could see the vision of different people or feel their thoughts, and was not limited by time. Present were the deceased’s relatives and friends, colleagues, and representatives of business relations.
Lin Yuhui could feel different people’s feelings and thoughts about the deceased, as well as some fragments of their interactions during their lifetime. After wandering around the crowd, he returned to the speaker.
“…You would tell the children stories from the Bible before going to bed, telling them ‘Be kind and responsible people, and the Lord will bless those who have good intentions in their hearts…’”
She was not very old, and her children were still young. One girl was of kindergarten age, and the other boy was even younger. The two stood beside her, a little cramped, not even knowing what had happened. They stared blankly at so many people coming, and tightly grabbed their mother’s skirt with their hands.
“…You have left us, like a seed returning to the dust, but I know this is not the end. As the Bible says, ‘I am the resurrection and the life’. You have just laid down the weariness of the mortal world,…”
The lady was still delivering the eulogy, but Lin Yuhui was also curious about how her husband died. However, he could not see the scene. The man was already lying in the coffin, and he could not touch the consciousness of the deceased. So he chose to wander among the people attending the funeral again, and saw some first-person information at that time from the memories of his colleagues. The deceased died of illness, seemingly a heart problem, and suddenly fell down.
Did he have a congenital heart problem? Lin Yuhui was a little curious. Just as he was shuttling between the guests present, he vaguely felt that someone was secretly rejoicing and mocking.
He teleported to his side and felt his memories. He was not a colleague of the deceased, because he did not go in and out of the same office building. His interpersonal relationships were very complicated. Lin Yuhui saw that he had contacted many people, all kinds of people, in his past experiences.
“…Lord, we pray that you grant them and all those who rest in the arms of Christ, enter the heavenly homeland of eternal happiness, light and peace. May the holy water wash away the sins of the deceased, so that their soul may rest in the Lord’s bosom and wait for the day of resurrection. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
When he pulled his attention back from the crowd again, the priest had finished the prayer, and the deceased’s coffin had been buried. But the woman’s grief of losing her husband seemed to attract his attention. Before he knew it, he had followed the lady back to her residence. It’s human nature. Even after death, his attention is still on women.
This was a wealthy area, southeast of Las Vegas city. There were many mansions on a small hill, but her home was not on the top of the hill. The bare hilltop lacked some vitality. This villa was built not far from the foot of the hill, where the vegetation was better. The courtyard was surrounded by trees all around. The villa buildings were divided into main and secondary parts, forming a connected whole. There was a swimming pool in front of the connecting corridor, with beach chairs placed beside it. Swim a lap, lie on the chair for a sunbath, have an ice cream, or a juice cocktail. If there is a beautiful woman by your side, no matter whether she loves you or not, anyway, I have plenty of money. All I want is your body. If you are not obedient, I will change someone. Hahaha, even gods and emperors are not as good as this. Imagining this, Lin Yuhui couldn’t help but sigh for the deceased, who had no luck to enjoy such a luxurious life.
Following her back into the room, he could vaguely feel the emptiness and sadness in her heart. The empty room, which originally had another person, was now half empty, and the emptiness doubled.
Was it this luxury that killed him? Lin Yuhui was not stupid. He knew that everything had a price. How many people would squeeze their heads and do whatever it took to live here. So, the days of gods and emperors that he had just imagined, what kind of price would they have to pay? Like this unlucky guy who just died.
He had followed these people here randomly. After all, this was not his home. Lin Yuhui wanted to leave and go somewhere else. But as soon as he reached the yard, the bright sun was shining brightly, making him feel uncomfortable, so he immediately returned to the room. At this time, he remembered the traditional Chinese ghost movies he had watched before, and couldn’t help worrying. Had he been floating for too long after death that he was about to have his soul scattered? Now he was already afraid of the sun. Thinking about this, he had to stay indoors first and think of other ways slowly.
Fortunately, this family was wealthy enough, and the villa had so many rooms that he could wander around here all afternoon. Leaving the lady’s room, he walked along the corridor, where decorative paintings hung on the walls.
The first one was a freehand oil painting. The brilliant Mediterranean sun illuminated the roofs of the seaside buildings, the walls, and the stone steps dotted with flowers and plants. No one walked by, leaving only the deep blue of the distant sea. But the colors seemed to be only something Lin Yuhui could imagine now.
The next painting seemed not to need eyes to appreciate the colors, because between the lines and color blocks, it was really impossible to tell what the painting was. It belonged to the abstract school of Picasso style. Just as he was carefully experiencing the artistic conception in the painting, sobs came from a distance.
