'SEE YOU MORNING' 019 Adding Flowers to Brocade
It was another sun-drenched afternoon. The lilacs in the backyard had thrived in the summer sun and rain, with many fresh green leaves releasing a delicate fragrance in the afternoon breeze. The scent of green leaves drifted in through the back door.
Qin Wenjing finished checking her own work and habitually glanced at Li Haojun's monitor, only to find he had a new appointment. After carefully reading the new scope of work, Qin Wenjing's lips curled slightly into a faint smile. In her view, Li Haojun was returning to the state he was in before his amnesia, gradually recovering his former intensity and activity. But back then he mainly did technical work, whereas this time it was more management-oriented. Qin Wenjing didn't quite understand—perhaps the company needed it, or perhaps it was because he had already lost his memory.
Li Haojun was immersed in his solar farm again. As usual, the news of the new appointment was just another excuse—an excuse for Qin Wenjing to walk down that path to find Li Haojun.
Stepping out the back door, the heat of a midsummer afternoon hit her face, surrounded by the fragrance of flowers and plants, the vivid green under the direct sunlight brimming with life.
Pulling open the basement door, Qin Wenjing didn't like it, because the scenery ahead was completely different from the path—dead and lifeless. But Li Haojun and all his energy equipment were here. This time, at a glance, Li Haojun wasn't sitting in his usual seat. Qin Wenjing crossed the room; beyond it was the power distribution room, and further ahead was the electrolytic capacitor storage room for energy storage.
Through the glass window of the power distribution room, Qin Wenjing looked left and right into the energy storage room, searching for Li Haojun's figure. Ah, it seemed he was in the far corner, checking the electrolyte situation, but his movements looked somewhat dull and mechanical—she couldn't tell if he was tired or just bored.
Qin Wenjing had wanted to pull him out, but remembering that Li Haojun had previously warned her not to come here to avoid accidents or personal injury, she stood by the window and watched him operate from a distance. Sometimes she could see him, sometimes her view was blocked, waiting to see if he would come out on his own.
Before long, Li Haojun came in through the side door connecting the energy storage room and the power distribution room. Qin Wenjing hadn't even noticed him approach.
"Looking for me?" Li Haojun asked as he walked in.
"Mm, yeah, you have another appointment notice."
"Let's go, we'll talk outside," Li Haojun said, slipping his arm around her waist as they walked and talked, the two of them returning to the house.
After reading the new appointment notice, Li Haojun hesitated for a moment, then turned to look at Qin Wenjing and said,
"If that's the case, the two experience stores in Seattle and Portland are co-invested by Paris Splendide. They're quite large."
"Oh, that Sophie?……" Qin Wenjing asked.
"Yeah, they're not like our company's self-operated customer feedback product experience stores. Taking that position might take up a lot of my time," Li Haojun said, glancing at Qin Wenjing before continuing,
"Then I won't have time to be with you."
Hearing this, Qin Wenjing smiled triumphantly, raised her eyebrows, rolled her eyes upward to both sides, and turned her head as she said, "The salary's already doubled. You want the money or me? You choose," and after saying that, she put on an air of complete indifference, crossed her legs, placed her hands on her lap, and started playing with her fingers.
"Tsk, people who don't make money these days still live pretty well, don't they? This money isn't that much more than theirs, and it's nothing compared to the capitalists. Why work so hard?"
"That's true, but doesn't our current life still depend on our labor income? Your equipment, plus you could buy a better luxury car, or……" Qin Wenjing said, then burst out laughing, "I won't say anymore, I'm not that materialistic." After that, Qin Wenjing fell silent, smiling as she looked at Li Haojun.
Li Haojun evaluated the new work locations and content on his own, then replied with his opinion on the new appointment. Looking at Qin Wenjing, he smiled and said,
"I've already reported my thoughts to the supervisor. I said I don't have enough energy to manage and operate so many places. The appointment should be able to be revoked."
"You really refused?" Qin Wenjing felt a twinge of regret. Although she wanted more time with Li Haojun, she also hoped he would have better career development. But the words she'd just said couldn't be taken back—they seemed to have already influenced Li Haojun's decision.
"Yeah, money isn't the goal. A little more wouldn't help me right now. What I need is time I can control, to do what I want to do, and to be with the person I want to be with," Li Haojun said, rising from his seat, standing in front of Qin Wenjing, and pulling her into his embrace. She sat in the chair, her face pressed right against Li Haojun's upper abdomen, her head tilted up, her delicate expression making one's heart ache.
Before the two of them could savor the moment, ding-dong—another message arrived. Qin Wenjing turned to look at the screen and read it aloud to Li Haojun,
"……Appointing you as Regional Operations Supervisor of Elegant Charm Hall in the Seattle, Portland, Spokane, and Boise areas. Appointing Kesiya Rodney as your industrial production management and data analysis assistant, and Malaya Rodney as your personal assistant secretary providing personal and administrative support……We hope that with their support, you will challenge your higher career goals and achieve the synchronous development of your career and the company's operations……"
As she said this, Qin Wenjing looked up at Li Haojun.
"In that case, it won't be easy to refuse again." Looking at the new message on the screen, Li Haojun couldn't help but mutter to himself.
Hearing him say that, Qin Wenjing continued to check the new appointment information. The attachment included staff photos and personal professional profiles of Kesiya and Malaya. Kesiya looked like a college graduate, while Malaya looked like a little girl, her face full of youthfulness.
Qin Wenjing turned back to look at Li Haojun—he was also staring at the screen.
"Now you're really in luck……" Qin Wenjing said, staring into Li Haojun's eyes. "Exactly your type."
"I never requested a beautiful secretary. I don't know how things turned out this way. Besides, they're just young and pretty—how is that my type? There are millions of flowers in the world, but I only love your petals."
After saying that, Li Haojun cupped Qin Wenjing's face in both hands and comforted her, "The person I care about most is you. It is now, it probably was in the past, and it will be in the future."
Although he said these words, Li Haojun knew in his heart that he couldn't remember his past with Qin Wenjing at all. His current gratitude was only because of her careful care and gentle treatment. And in the future—whether he would favor one over the other as the years passed was hard to say. But to comfort her, he could only say this.
Qin Wenjing said nothing, her face tilted up, looking at Li Haojun.
"Besides, look how young they are. I could be their father. Don't overthink it. Okay?" he said, gently pinching her cheek.
Qin Wenjing laughed at that, then turned back to the screen and sighed, "Sigh, from now on it depends on whether you have a conscience."
After saying that, she stared at the screen, also laughing at herself. Just a moment ago she had been regretting whether she had influenced Li Haojun's career development, and she never expected things to turn around so quickly—now she was worried he would fly too far. Reflecting on her own inner thoughts, it seemed she could face the future with a more peaceful mindset.
After dinner, they strolled along the path behind the house. The setting sun, wrapped in its last streak of crimson, vanished below the horizon, and night fell with it, a few stars twinkling at the edge of the sky.
Although the evening breeze was gentle, the summer heat had not yet dissipated. Qin Wenjing linked her arm through Li Haojun's as they walked and chatted.
"Tomorrow you have to go to Boise, Idaho first, to meet your new assistants. How about it, looking forward to it?"
"I'm not some young kid anymore. I'm more than halfway through my life. Where would I get all those thoughts or expectations? Besides, they have their own lives—basically I have nothing to do with them. Having lived this long, don't I have that much judgment?" Li Haojun said, his arm around Qin Wenjing, his hand stroking her waist.
"Mm, just don't get yourself into any legal trouble."
"Haha, not that bad. Although I don't remember my past experiences, I don't think I'm that kind of person."
"Mm, that's true. When you first recovered your memory, it really took you quite a while before you and I……"
"Yeah, don't worry. Even if……" Li Haojun said, pulling Qin Wenjing close and wrapping his arm around her waist, the two of them standing face to face, "even if she's interested, I don't know her at all."
"How so?" Qin Wenjing asked.
"I don't even know if she's a decent person. I don't know if she's clean either. So you don't need to worry."
"Hahaha, then do you know if I'm clean?" Qin Wenjing asked with a laugh.
"You're different."
"Hmph, how am I different?" Qin Wenjing looked up at Li Haojun, as if asking a question she already knew the answer to.
"Because it was you who took care of me until I woke up." Li Haojun said, his hand stroking the skin of Qin Wenjing's lower back.
Under the dim moonlight, Qin Wenjing's smiling face glowed even brighter, but she said nothing. She kept her arm linked through Li Haojun's and slowly walked back.
