This was pathetic, by a long shot actually. Crying over the same woman at most five times a day was something Winona never thought in a million years she’d wind up doing. Did she? Certainly. Lia was on her mind the same way its owner was on a dog’s.

It felt unfair to Winona that Lia didn’t cry over her. Maybe she was just different… Or maybe her job took a lot out of her. Regardless, it was eating at her.

She wasn’t going to do anything about it, she had pried long enough. Any time Winona worried about Lia in an obsessive sort of way, no matter how intense, it somehow seemed to push her further away.

That familiar screech of the door dragging against the raised part of the linoleum flooring to the bathroom snapped Winona back into reality. The overwhelming scent of artificial cotton candy and raspberry somehow threatened an emotional aura to come from an already struggling Winona.

Winona swallowed a nauseating amount of air to prevent herself from ugly crying and dared to face the one person she knew would see through her stupidly fake facade. Except, the reaction she was met with was far worse than what she was expecting.

“Do you hate me or something?” Winona’s voice was cracking, yet she made it crystal clear she was also hurt. “Like, if you want me to go, don’t be so cruel about it.”

“I’m tired.”

“What a lame excuse, everyone uses that when they refuse to elaborate.”

“Well, I worked, you didn’t.” Lia scoffed and hopped into bed begrudgingly beside her best friend. “God forbid I come home exhausted.”

“If I’m that much of an inconvenience just say it,” Winona replied a little too loudly, her voice emotionless. “I knew you didn’t have a laundry list of shit that you had to work on.”

“Oh my God, we’ll talk about this tomorrow, remind me,” Lia turned to the side, facing away from Winona. “Good night.”

That same second Lia shut her eyes, a floodgate emerged from Winona’s.
