Episode 19: Different Choices
The third day began. The village felt different. Not louder. More familiar. Without thinking, Jinwoo walked toward the Jegichagi courtyard again. Then stopped. “…Why am I here again?”
No one had called him. No mission waited. No reward was promised. Yet he had returned.
Hanul was already there. “You took your time.” “You came early?” “I wanted another try.” He smiled confidently. “I’m getting ten today.” Kick. Miss. Hanul frowned. “…Forget I said that.” Jinwoo laughed.
Nearby, the little girl from yesterday reached six kicks. She jumped with excitement. Several strangers applauded. No one cared who had won. For a brief moment, everyone celebrated together.
Not everyone stayed. Handol watched the courtyard for a while. Then his eyes wandered elsewhere. Across the road, a wooden stick spun through the air. Jachigi. “…That looks fun.” Without hesitation, he walked away.
On the other side of the village, Darin found herself surrounded by children playing marbles. “Can I join?” One of them smiled. “Sure.” Within minutes, they were laughing together like old friends.
Nearby, Soyeon sat beneath a tree, watching. Some people became competitive. Some gave up quickly. Some encouraged strangers. Some quietly practiced alone. The same village. The same playgrounds. Yet everyone chose differently. “…Interesting.” She whispered to herself.
Back at the courtyard, Jinwoo finally kicked. One. Two. The shuttlecock fell. Only two. Yesterday had been one. He smiled. Not because it was impressive. Because it was better.
