Episode 18: Jegichagi
Morning arrived. The village was louder than yesterday. Laughter echoed through the streets.
Not because anyone had been told to gather. They simply came back. Every playground was alive.
Children chased spinning tops. Hoops rolled across open fields. Marbles clicked beneath old trees. Rubber bands snapped. Strings stretched between curious fingers. Each playground welcomed whoever wandered in.
Jinwoo stood once again before the small courtyard. Jegichagi. He looked at the feathered shuttlecock. “…Again?”
He wasn’t sure why. His feet had simply brought him there. Nearby, Hanul waved. “You came back too?” “…Looks like it.”
Hanul grinned. “Guess we’re both weird.”
Jinwoo tossed the shuttlecock into the air. Kick. Miss. The shuttlecock dropped onto the dirt. “…Still hard.” Hanul laughed. “You think?”
Soon both of them were laughing. One by one, more teenagers arrived. Nobody introduced themselves. Nobody needed to. They simply picked up a shuttlecock.
Jinwoo kicked again. This time— One. The shuttlecock rose. Then fell. He stared at it. “…One.” Only one. Yet somehow, it felt different from yesterday.
Hanul clapped once. “See? That’s improvement.” Jinwoo smiled without realizing it.
As he picked up the shuttlecock, a strange feeling passed through him. Not a memory. Not a vision. Only… a sense that this moment was somehow familiar. The feeling disappeared before he could understand it.

Arena did not reach a conclusion. Not yet. The data was still incomplete. But one fact was becoming clear. No one had been forced to return. They had chosen to. And for Arena, that alone was worth watching.
